The Skanner News Group is currently building a major expansion and redesign of www.theskanner.com website, and a new street version of The Skanner that includes news and views from both Seattle and Portland, Ore.
The Seattle and Portland print editions will merge into one publication, and www.theskanner.com will also be reorganized as a resource for the readers in communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
"We are taking the opportunity to do what we already do, only better," said The Skanner Publisher Bernie Foster. "We're combining breaking news and feature articles and video, all about our local communities but also with stories from around the nation and the world – because the world is changing, and we're changing along with it."
"This new direction means The Skanner will become not just a weekly newspaper chain, but a daily news source," said The Skanner News Editor Lisa Loving. "Once the website redesign is complete, we will be uploading breaking news several times daily, which means our readers will have even more access to the kinds of stories they find in The Skanner and nowhere else."
Under the direction of Oregon-based design studio BlackWebDiva.com, www.theskanner.com will be easier to read and offer more interactive features, including a Black Business Directory and expanded entertainment section.
The changes should be complete within the next two months, Foster said.
As always, any local group or small business is encouraged to submit digital photos of interest to The Skanner readers, as well as news briefs and important news tips, to [email protected].
The Skanner's new expanded web content will continue to be available through RSS feeds and e-subscriptions delivered right to your desktop or BlackBerry. To suscribe to "Breaking News" go to http://www.theskanner.com/register.php
